THE MYSTERY OF THE SINISTER SCARECROW () Possibly my favorite Three Investigators story. Everything about this one works for me. The settings (farm field out in a valley), the footwork (I love the scene where Pete pretends to be someone's nephew), the suspects(A whole plethora of house guests!), and even who the culprit turns out to be!/5(2).   Filled with some genuinely spooky moments, a cracking mystery and great (and often larger-than-life) characters, this is a storming entry into the series and has everything you want from a Three Investigator book. All of the lads get a chance to shine, the writing is top-notch and the ending highlights Jupe’s deductive powers to a tee.

The Three Investigators series was translated into several different languages and is known around the world, although the boys themselves are sometimes given different names, depending on the language and country. Added Alliterative Appeal: A favorite of the book titles, as in Green Ghost, Silver Spider, Crooked Cat, Flaming Footprints, Singing Serpent, Monster Mountain, Dancing Devil, Headless Horse, Deadly Double, Sinister Scarecrow, Purple Pirate, Missing Mermaid, Trail of Terror, Rogues' Reunion, Creep-Show Crooks, Wrecker's Rock, Cranky Collector.
